Hamilton, Bermuda, January 17, 2023 – Ariel Re has teamed up with the community-action initiative
SPS.bm (Support Public Schools, Bermuda) to donate $8,000 worth of supplies to eight Bermuda
public primary schools across the Island.
The materials, which included math, poetry and phonetics books, science measuring tools and music
equipment, were given to St. George’s Preparatory, Harrington Sound, Francis Patton, Elliot,
Northlands, Gilbert Institute, Purvis and Somerset primary schools.
Founded in 2018, SPS.bm is a community action initiative which supports the enhancement of
learning in public schools across Bermuda by providing the instructional resources students need to
be successful. In total, so far this school year, local businesses have purchased supplies worth
$50,000 to support public schools in Bermuda, which is a total of more than $450,000 in new school
supplies purchased since the inception of SPS.bm in 2018.
The materials were handed out on January 17 and 18, 2023 to 18 public primary schools across the
island in deliveries made by SPS Team volunteers, AF Smith Ltd. and the Phoenix Group Ltd.
“Ariel Re is honoured to assist Bermuda’s public schools through the excellent work of SPS.bm,” said
Carolina Medeiros on behalf of Ariel Re. “We are proud to support our schools to give young
Bermudians the best possible education.”
“We are confident our contributions will help our wonderful teachers, who provide such great
service to the young people of Bermuda, and we look forward to keeping in touch with them and
continuing to support them throughout the year.”
Every year, SPS.bm asks teachers in Bermuda public schools to submit a “wish list” of resources they
would like for the current academic year to enhance their students’ learning experience in the
classroom. The requested items are then made available for purchase at discounted prices from
SPS.bm’s main suppliers, AF Smith Ltd. and the Phoenix Group Ltd.
Ariel Re, which donated almost $100,000 to good causes in 2022, will continue to support SPS.bm in
coming years.
